Funky Butterflies

Funky Butterflies

I’ve just been in a funky mood lately clothing-wise. While I was waiting for a super-cute lucky board dress at shirohato, I shopped. Of course I’m gonna shop. I mean, how can I NOT shop? Get a grip.

At shirohato, they have these quirky clothes dirt cheap. I don’t wait for many lucky boards/chairs because I’m the type of person who stands in front of the microwave and says, “What is that like an entire minute? I don’t have a minute. Get on with it!” Yeah, I’m an impatient fuck. It’s a fact. As I was waiting for the characters 0-9 to pass on the lucky BORED (WTF?), I started using the tiny shop as my personal dressing room. Oh, like you haven’t done that when no one’s about. (Yeah, so there was this blue unicorn in the corner, but I’m sure he/she were not paying any mind. Besides, I’m pretty sure I wasn’t his/her type.)

Typically I’m not a fan of patterns on tops that look like they’re gripping my lady berries. However, this satin, handpainted jacket from shirohato was hard to resist. (Umm, hello, $40?!) I paired it up funky-like with the pants from the Urban outfit from Acid & Mala Creations and Naive’s brand new falling-down socks. I cannot get enough of those socks. (Psst, get the fat pack.) The great thing about them is that they don’t use the same attachment points as the cuffs. Yay! Attachment points can suck it.

The hair and hat combo is from Shop Seu. My PhotoShop skills completely butchered the sweet fuzzy/furriness of it, so use your imagination. I just wish it came in another color other than blond. Back in my early days, I used to be a blond, but grew tired of always shopping for blond textures. Trainers are expensive unisexy goodness from hoorenbeek. Oh, and I hate to tell you this, but you’re on your own with the hip chain. In one of my daily exploits of the grid, I found it. It’s from a shop called Gypsy Moon. However, the last time I was there, I couldn’t find it. I promise I’ll keep searching for it and update this post if I do. (Hey at least I’m not dangling Last Call yummeh’s in your face sayin, “Lookie here, pre-2007 bishes. You can’t haaaave. Neener”)

Oh, and despite spending a good 40 minutes last night, I still haven’t scored that cutie freebie dress. Someone hollah if you see the letter “H” at shirohato.

Eclectic Mix

Eclectic Mix

Hey, who says you can’t pair a dollarbie sequin dress with some fun gray plaid? Wig Wam Bam’s cutie sequin dress adds a little sparkle to Milk Motion’s preppy plaid jacket. Just something different than the usual tight sequin dress + heels look. The versatility of the jacket is non-stop. It has two different waist styles and is available in a few colors.

I’m always amazed at other fashion blogger’s skills of putting unexpected things together. I look at things and think, “Huh, I would have never thought of that, but it works!” Mix your things up by pairing unexpected items with each other. And the beauty of doing it in your second life is that you don’t end up with a pile of clothes on the floor.

Boy’s Closet, Again

August 20, 2009

Boy’s Closet, Again!

Here’s my interpretation of this fall’s biggest look, the boyfriend. Taking capris from The Closet which might be a smidge too short to be called traditional boyfriend jeans, which are typically looser in the legs, and have rolled-up cuffs a bit because hey, your guy is usually bigger and taller than you, right?

The jacket is a new release from Pink Outfitters and is called the Little Brother Blazer. Cute, short, hand painted and best of all, inexpensive. Comes in a few colors. My advice, get ‘em all. I’ve thrown it over Atomic’s off-the-shoulder funky graphic t-shirt. With its waist ties (stomach attach), it’s cute on its own.

Heels from Maitreya, along with simple jewelry from chuchulet and Bliensen, offset the boyish charm of the razored hair from Truth and the overall look.

Real Women Watch Football…

Well, at least the one writing this does.  It’s that time of year, pre-season football started and it’s got me thinking about my fantasy team. I’m a sport girl in my first life and can get totally tomboy in a heart beat and it starts by throwing on a ball cap. Max Rhiano of Lidz has created an entire line of ball caps with NFL logos. All 32 teams are represented with unique color combinations (bill and cap). New with this release are realistic air hole grommets.

Pictured below are the Steelers and the New York Giants. Just two fine examples of the huge selection available. I’ve paired it with 69’s hair but not without some significant modding of it. If you’re not familiar on how to mod hair to fit under a hat, here are some tips for getting the perfect hat hair (courtesy of Couture Chapeau):

Be sure to make a copy of your hair before you attempt this.
Hop on a pose stand
Right click on hair and choose edit
Check box Edit linked parts
Check box Stretch
Make sure Stretch Both Sides is NOT checked
Right click individual prim hair
Decrease size of prim until it disappears inside the hat and repeat for all hair sticking outside of hat

So whether you do the total girl thing and like a team just because you like their uniform colors (Hello, Tennessee Titans!), or want to represent your favorite team, go check out Lidz. The caps are fully mod and copiable and use the chin as an attachment point. Hats are priced at $100L per, or $1,000 for the entire collection of 32 teams.

Bird Watching

I did the Skipping Stones hunt over the past couple of days. At first, I started running through the stores in search of the illusive, almost impossible to see skipping stone. (I can’t believe how many fellow bloggers I saw along the way, too. Way cool.) After my second or third store, I started to slow down and look at the store’s actual products for sale. What a concept, I know. I realize that one of the business reasons to host a hunt is to draw new business. And, given what’s happened to me, I would have to agree that the concept works.

I wandered about Tyranny Designs store, which is part of the SS Hunt. The store build itself is rich in texture, light and sound, so I didn’t mind wandering about. TD’s designs are unique, quirky almost. I saw this outfit with its sweet little blue bird and knew I had to have it. I have a blue bird tattoo in real life, so I’m a sucker for them.

I was so excited to put this outfit on and squeed with delight when I saw it even came with a little pet blue bird for my shoulder. Other details include sweet feathers that stick out of a hip pocket and a whip-stitch hemline. The outfit comes with the jacket that has a wonderful hand painted blue bird on it. The jacket has a vintage feel to it. It also comes with the short mini. The only fault I could find with the outfit was that the prim sleeves are not modifiable, so I had to make my arms a little thinner to accommodate. Not a huge deal! Oh, and lest I forget, the outfit comes in several different colors.

The socks are from Miel Mo and are MM’s hunt offering in navy. The earrings and bracelet are from Bliensen, another hunt participant. They’re super cool and very industrial looking being made from weathered gear parts.

Club Mix

Club Mix

This look is created specifically for my friend Mercedes. She informed me the other night that I was doing entirely too many “pretty looks” and that I need to start doing more club looks. So here goes…

Pink Outfitters’ Builders jumpsuit in shocking pink starts the look off. Added underneath is part of Miel Mo’s tube top in teal. (I can’t lay off the crack.) The yellow belt (on the jacket layer) is from Emery and is part of the HipChic outfit. N-Core’s Stylus Platform XtremeHeel in yellow provides an even more burst of color. N-Core’s stiletto’s are special because the soles are scripted to change color. (Shown is black/pink sole.) Truth’s new release of Ingrid provides the attitude with its saucy hat.

I’d like to point out the awesome necklaces from Farrah Palmer’s chuculet. I visited her store the other day and was shocked at the prices. $1 for almost everything, including super-cute shapes. The necklace is very well-done and if it were available at the evil empire of Armidi, it would cost $300L, at least. If you visit her shop, be sure to leave her a tip

(Sorry for picture spam. I got carried away!)

Thinking About Fall

August 4, 2009

Thinking About Fall

In the “summer that never happened” for me, I’m starting to think a little bit about fall. Digging deep in my virtual closet I came out with this simple chocolate mid-thigh skirt by SLink. I remember purchasing the fat pack of these a long time ago. (Maybe 2 years ago? I hope they still sell them. Bad blogger, bad.) The skirt’s two-button, a-line simplicity can’t be beat and they come in lots of colors.

Also unearthed from the closet of doom is Nylon Outfitters beaded sweater. This sweater is a deal because for the price of one, you get two colors and layers with a tank and without a tank (not shown). Layered under the sweater are Maitreya’s Savoir turtle neck and Kookie’s tank top. I had to work a little attachment point wizardry to get Miel Mo’s pretty corsage (chest) and the turtle neck (spine) to cooperate, but if you don’t feel like messing with it, I’ve provided a picture without the turtleneck on the left.

New (to me) and very unique poses from Lyndz-Matic. If you haven’t visited her store in Thistle, do it. It’s so much fun to stand on the diner tables and make all Zoolander with the poses.

Those pants again

August 3, 2009

Those Pants Again!

In my first life, I love putting dresses with pants, either jeans, capris, or leggings. I like the unexpectedness of taking a dress that would be super-sultry on its own and throwing it on top of a pair of boyfriend jeans. Here I’ve used the very popular Miel Mo’s pocket pants in driftwood underneath So Many Styles sexy crocheted baby doll dress. The wedge t-strap shoes are from Kookie. Also included are non t-strap version. (My pictures don’t do them justice.)

Another look I’ve been seeing a lot of in first life this summer are the addition of gauzy summer scarves to outfits. This scarf is finally textured in hemp and sizeable from The Closet. It comes in vast array of colors as well.

Take a look through your inventory, look at all of those baby doll dresses from Cupcake and start thinking about pairing them over jeans or capris to get a fresh look out of them. You just might be surprised what you come up with.
